How I Clean my Makeup Brushes

Cleaning makeup brushes with baby shampoo

Hello everyone!
Today I thought that I would banish the myth which is believing you need to spend £20+ on a make up brush shampoo. This is a common misconception, however I only spend £1 on mine and it's nothing fancy...just Baby Shampoo! A couple of years ago I suffered a really bad allergic reaction which covered my whole face. Neither the doctors or I could pin it down to anything but I realised that I was never careful with my make up brushes and honestly, I never even thought about cleaning them! Baby shampoo is extremely safe to use due to the simple formula made for sensitive skin, in fact I often use it in my own hair for a detox from chemicals in my regular hair routine.

Step 1: Prepare your brushes
Lay out all of your brushes ready for the cleaning sesh to begin! Even if there are brushes which haven't been used or aren't visibly dirty, I would recommend cleaning them anyway just to remove any dust or bacteria. Using a water spray, dampen the brushes.

Step 2: Pump and swirl

Wet your hands and roughly pump a pea size amount(depends on the brush size) of shampoo into your palms. With your brush, work up a lather by constantly swirling and occasionally wetting the brush.

Step 3: Rinse and squeeze

With running water, rinse off the shampoo and squeeze out any excess.

Step 4: Repeat

This is an optional step. If you don't feel satisfied with your brushes, you're a bit ocd OR you just really like the feeling of the swirling on your hands then lather them up with the soap again!

Step 5: Smile

Just look how shiny and clean it is and it only costed a pound! Please tell me if that isn't satisfying!?

Step 6: Leave to dry

All that is left to do now is just wait. It is important to shape the bristles to ensure they return back to the original state. For me, I tend to do this process on a Sunday evening and leave them to dry overnight ready for the morning!

I hope you enjoy the feeling of your clean soft brushes on your face :)
